My Craft Space
January 18th, 2007 by HeatherSince crafting is my main passion, my husband and I agreed to make me a space that would be all my own. Its in the basement, so unfortunately its sometimes cold and dark, but its a space all my own, and I love it!
So here it is:
Its not pretty, its not fancy, but its mine The black shelving was specially designed and made for me by my husband, and its actually pretty empty right now, I haven’t filled it back up since we moved. As you can see, I have a variety of craft supplies, including stuff for scrapbooking (paper galore!), sewing, knitting / crocheting and even just general crafts.
Of course, my first love is knitting and crochet, and this is my favorite part of my craft room, my yarn stash!!!
I’ve actually made it a lot smaller the past while, at one point my entire black shelf was yarn only Its like an addiction, I can’t stop buying it. I also have a stash of fabric (all the drawers of the dresser are full of it) and a good collection of ribbon.
My husband made the ribbon holder for me, its usually mounted on a wall but I have no where right now since the walls are unfinished. But it keeps all my ribbon in one place, and it looks good too! Eventually we are going to finish off my craft space, and make it into a small room for me. But for now, its perfect for my needs
So now some of my current projects! I’m very excited about these – I’ve been sewing cloth diapers and wipes for my daughter.

Hi, Heather. First, I want to say that I love this site — so many fun projects and good tutorials here. You have all done a great job. I’m glad I found it.
Secondly, I was wondering where you got your diaper pattern and if you’d share a little more about how those diapers work — like do you need an outer covering, or is that diaper going to keep moisture in? Just curious. I think you did a great job with it and it’s something I might want to try in the future.
Thirdly, I’m so jealous you have your own space like that! I’m a crocheter myself, so I’m impressed with your yarn stash!
Anyway, I guess that’s long enough for one post.

Jen and Kristie – thanks for the comments
Holli – I’m glad you are liking our site!
I ordered the diapers from diaperkit.com, they provide everything you need for a diaper (fabric, elastic, touch tape, size tags), all precleaned and pressed and cut out, so all you have to do is sew them together. They are very reasonably priced, and its a great place to start. I did order a pattern for diapers off of ebay that I’m going to try and I can let you know how that works out if you would like!
The diapers I am making are All-In-One’s – the colored part is a breathable waterproof layer that will allow the bum to breathe without letting moisture out. There are also kits available for fitted diapers (require a cover) and even covers. Thanks for the compliment on the diaper – its the first I’ve ever sewn. If you are interested in trying them out, then I would definitely try a diaperkit.com kit. They come with complete instructions, and that way you can try a diaper or two to see if you like sewing them without spending a lot of money on fabric that you end up not using if you don’t like them
I hope that answers your questions!

Hey, great job on the diaper! I used a similar pattern for my son’s cloth diapers, and I tell you that the AIOs are the easiest way to go when using cloth. Just an FYI, you might want to get yourself a Minishower (www.minishower.com) for when your daughter gets a little older – it makes diapering a touch easier, imo. Also, if you feel like branching out and trying different diaper patterns, I liked the Very Baby patterns (from http://www.diapershop.com) – they have decent prices on the diapering material as well. Sewzannes (www.sewzannesfabrics.com) is also good for fabric finds. Kudos!

They are easy and fast to work up, and you can make them so cute and functional. Plus, I love seeing Elizabeth wearing them, and knowing that my work is getting used [...]
