Clone Yourself a Dress Form

duct-tape-dress-form.jpg For those who like to make their own clothes, but can’t afford a store-made dress form, deck yourself in duct tape and you’ve got an inexpensive alternative. Threads magazine gives four easy and fun ways to create your own dress form using either papier-mâché or duct tape. They say you can complete this project in as little as two hours, using no more than $15 in materials. I’ll be trying this in the weeks to come, so check back to see my cloned dress form.

Oh boy, that is the LAST thing I need to see – my OWN dressform. If that doesn’t depress myself, I don’t know what would!

Actually, don’t use duct tape, it’ll collapse very shortly. Use gummed paper tape, it’s sold in office supply stores (cheaper than duct tape too) and it dries hard as paper mache and just as light. Use several layers, drying between each. It’ll take a while but the dress form will last much longer than the duct tape form will.

And to the above poster, I thought the same, until I saw mine. It brought new appreciation for my shape, however socially unacceptable it may be :)

    Happy sewing!
