My first bag

I decided to make a bag for my mom for her birthday. I found this great fabric and thought what a pretty bag it would make, so with no pattern or ANY clue on how to make a purse, I began cutting, sewing and assembling. The whole thing took about two hours, mainly because I didnt know what I was doing so I was having to stop every few steps and draw a diagram.
I had some trouble attaching the straps because I did them next to last, when I should’ve sewed them to the lining before attacing the lining to the outter piece. But hindsight is 20/20 and my mom loved it anyways.
I had a good time doing this, and I can’t wait to make some more bags. I found this tutorial for quilted patchwork bags and will be attempting this next week, so hopefully it will turn out just as perdy as hers.

I think your bag is really nice:) I read what you said about the handles and thought about a tutorial for a bag I’ve come across that puts the handles last on the outside of the bag (sort of sandwiches the bag in between the tho layers of fabric from the handles); thought you might want to check it out:

Oh my gosh, for that being your first time I think you did a great job! That fabric is very pleasing to the eye.

GREAT Job. I too tried to make a bag over the weekend, but there will be no post of my hideous bag on any blog. I tried to use a pattern, and I really think I would have done a better job without one. But, yours looks very nice and I love the patterns.

I have to tell you how much I appreciate you posting your beginning sewer’s projects. I just got a sewing machine last week and it helps to see someone else just beginning. I hope that didn’t come out the wrong way- I just love these project ideas!
