Mini Overall Hooks

March 27th, 2007 by Jen Love

I have been hunting lately for new and easy ways to add a closure to the bags that I make. I wanted to share what I found this week on the button rack- mini overall hooks!

I liked the simple look of the hook and aged nickel finish of the button. It was simple to sew on and I think looked really cute. I am sure that I have passed these over before but I think they are a perfect finish, especially for small bags. Do you have any other things used for closures that were not originally intended for that?

Brilliant! I haven’t come up with any alternative closures … but I will start thinking differently about things now.

Smarty pants! Great idea, going to the sewing shop to look around.

Cute! This avoids some of the disadvantages of the magnetic clasps (unsightly on the back).

Karen, if you are asking how to knit that is a bigger question, but if you would like the pattern I got it from http://www.knittychick.com/freebiepatterns.htm
“The Blissful Knitter Felted Purse”. Thanks!
This bag will be for sale at our Craft Fair!

I know this is an old post, but I saw it and wanted to comment on your genius and add another tip. I once made a long jacket from the lining of a beat-up leather trenchcoat that was purely aesthetic in nature, being just the satiny lining with the arms cut out. I found some old cufflinks in my house, the kind with the chain-metal type of belt attachment that folds over on itself. They had these wonderful clear jewel-like things that changed from blue to green to purple in different light, so I sewed them into the edges of the jacket where I wanted it to close, and just put the little bolt of one into the hole of the other and secured it.
