Dried Flower Framing
September 10th, 2007 by Jen LoveThis is a great idea I couldn’t wait to share after visiting a friend’s house this week. I had never thought to ask if she had created this framed work herself. I assumed she had bought it this way, but I love the natural flowers with such a natural picture. It really draws your attention and adds dimension.
She bought the print on her honeymoon and the frame later. But my favorite part was that she got dried baby’s breath from a craft store to place around the print rather than buying expensive matting. She layered the flowers on the paper and then pressed the glass upon it, using no glue to damage the print. I loved this idea and her house is so inspiring! Thanks, E!

Lou, I know it says “Martha’s Vineyard” on the bottom of the print and that they got it at a shop there. But I’ll ask my friend to give me the company and name of print. I love it too!

The picture reads:
West Tisbury – Marth’s Vineyard

Hope this helps you find it!

Coming out of lurk mode to be a killjoy- it is very pretty, but a quick reminder- plants in general have goo and stuff that makes them not so good to put next to a print you want to take good care of, combine that with a commercially dried flower and there is a very, very high chance that the paper will have acid or other burns around the image- this is a wonderful thing to do with something you consider a consumable, a print or something you don’t plan on having as part of your decor in another ten years, but not something I would advise doing with a keepsake item- and so you don’t think I’m talking just to hear myself talk, I’m a museum curator and help people deal with preserving keepsake items on a daily basis

What a great idea! I love it. I agree, I’d make sure to use it on a print that you could reproduce. If it’s a photograph, I’d just make sure to have the original file or neg. I’m going to try this. Thanks for sharing!

My mother in law loves scrap booking and when our daughter was born we had saved and dried out a lot of the flowers that had been sent to the hospital. She picked some of her favourite photos of her granddaughter, used some of her “It’s a girl” cards and we found and old frame that my husband had been hoarding downstairs “just in case” She arranged the pics and cards and put the flowers in and around the border, like what was done here. It now hangs in her bedroom and I get such a lovely warm feeling every time I look at it and remember when she was first born.
