Recycling Christmas Cards

December 26th, 2006 by Candace

Before you decide to toss all those Christmas cards sent to you, save them and use them as gift tags for next year. It doesn’t require a crafty-hand, just a pair of scissors and a hole punch.

Cut around specific shapes, or take a decorative backdrop and cut shapes in it. Punch a hole in the top for tying them on and cover any writing on the back by gluing a piece of paper over it. You can even embellish them with glitter, sequins or ribbon.

It doesn’t take any time at all, and you’ve turned those beautiful Christmas cards into beautiful gift tags for next holiday season.

This is a really neat idea! I was just today looking at my cards hanging up thinking what can I do with them. I have a few that are sooo pretty, I don’t want to throw them away. I’m going to do this with them!

That is so clever! Thanks for the idea!

I’ve been doing this for years. I pack my cards with my Christmas decorations each year. Then when I unpack them, I read them again, thinking of the friends and family who sent them, and then I cut them up to make my tags. You can sometimes get more than one tag from each card.

I’ve been keeping my old cards for years. Not just Christmas cards…every one of them, for every occasion. I’ve cut the pic into strips, and if there was writing on the backs, I’ve glued a strip of construction paper or card stock. I laminate them and make bookmarks out of them. If I’ve intended the bookmark for someone in particular, I write a personal message on the back of the strip before I laminate it. Punch a hole in the top, tie a piece of ribbon, and Voila!!
