I have found my place!
May 30th, 2007 by CandaceIn keeping with the growing success of Heather’s crochet lessons, I have to share two recent projects that I’ve completed because I’m just so stinking excited about them. For anyone that knows me knows I get bored very easily, so the fact that I am sticking with this is amazing in itself and I really do feel that I’ve found my niche in the crafting world.
I made this blanket for a good friend of mine who is due with a little boy at the end of the summer. I found this yummy yarn at Hobby Lobby and fell in love with the colors and how rustic they are. I love this blanket and I loved working on it mainly because it’s going to someone I really care about. I won’t lie and say I didn’t think about keeping it for myself because it’s really big and the perfect, most yummiest lap blanket it would make, but seeing Amanda’s face when she opened it was worth it.
This next one is a bag I made for another good friend of mine for her birthday. The applique turned out completely different than I had imagined it would, but I still liked how it ended up. And it was another gift that as I look at this picture now I think, “I really liked that - I should’ve kept it.” It’s okay tho - I love giving gifts so it’s great that I get to give pretty things. Well…most of them are pretty anyways.
That’s all I can show you for now. The next few weeks are birthdays upon graduations upon anniversaries and I am making stuff as quickly as I can, but I can’t post pics until all the beauties are handed out. I absolutely love crocheting and if it’s something you’ve been wanting to learn, check out Heather’s crochet lessons and learn finally. You may find that it may be your niche, too.

Both your projects are just lovely. I particularly like how you made the flowers on the purse. So cute!

Thaks for sharing. I just love your purse! You did a great job and I totally love the flowers. Can you say where you got the pattern? I need a pattern to make anything. Would so appreciate it.

Thanks ladies - I appreciate your kind words!! Judy, the pattern is actually for a clutch that is about half that size in length and it was found in the Stitch ‘n Bitch The Happy Hooker book. But for that bag, I tinkered with the number of chains to find the size I wanted. The flower design was from my own noggin that I sketched out. That was a labor of love seeing as that took just as long (if not longer) to do as it was to crochet the bag. But it was totally worth it and I can’t wait to do another!

I love the color choices you used for the blanket (I hear the whispers of a blue, brown and cream blanket calling to me)! And I completely know what you mean about finding your niche…I’m an Instant Gratification Girl who gives up on different types of crafts fairly easily but crochet actually has the potential to stick around. It’s so portable, easy, gratifying and fun!

Very, very impressive! Your work looks gorgeous (and that applique, wow!), and to think you only picked it up, what, 2 months ago? Also, I bet Amanda loves that blanket!! I can just picture her little guy bundled up in it on chilly fall nights - great job!

I love the purse embellishments. The flowers and leaves are super cute. Great colors, too. Same goes for the lap blanket. I love the brown, cream, turquoise, and brick combination.

Those are wonderful! It really is such a special treat when you see the faces of those you give such a heartfelt and handmade gift too. I have never stopped looking forward to the reactions of the receivers of my blankets! Keep up the beautiful work!

Beautiful bag! What nice work you’re doing. Are you opening up a shop? what happened with the “business” ides. Just wondering. Thanks!

LOVE both of those - they turned out beautifully. Those are both projects that I have been meaning to try myself. I’m always on the lookout for good stripey color combos for a blanket, and I loved your picks.
great job!

I am the very happy birthday girl who took this purse out on my birthday, and it got a lot of attention. Thank you Candace, it really is beautiful and special. You really know how to “Love your neighbor as yourself” . And the blanket in person is even more beautiful. You rock!

I too love that lil clutch pattern - I have made two for gifts and am finishing one for myself. I love the embellishment you made! I will have to play around with felt; I crocheted flowers for embellishment on the bags I made, and one was a little pin as well. The felt adds a nice texture, though. I also like the colors you chose for the blanket; it’s nice not to always have pastels for babies! Nicely done

Candace, I was wondering is that just a sc for the blanket?? I love it! The bag too! Are they both sc? and what type of yarn did you use…acrylic?
